Each year, efforts are made to place JLB members at already established as well as new locations in the community to provide volunteer services.
Arts & Music
  • Music Appreciation Course, 1950
  • Children's Story Hour at Public Library, 1950-53
  • Art Exhibits by Frank DeFioia and John Allan Maxwell, 1951 & 1953
  • Art Show in the Schools sponsored for twenty years, 1964-1985
  • Drama Day sponsor at Virginia Highlands Festival, 1957
  • Sponsored Suzari Marionettes Production, 1960-63
  • Established Applachian Chapter of Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 1962
  • Co-sponsor of Bristol Fine Arts Festival, 1966-67
  • Elementary School Art Education Program, 1961-65 and 1969
  • Poet in the Schools, National Endowment for Arts, 1974
  • Donation to the Tennessee Performing Arts Foundation, Nashville, TN 1975
  • Sponsored Artist in Residence Program for gifted art students in the Bristol Virginia School System, 1976
  • It's Happening, a Bristol Arts Calendar designed, printed, and distributed monthly to the community, 1981

  • Presented the Johnson City Symphony Pops Concert as a special gift to Bristol, 1982

  • Endorsed and funded Appalachian Artist-In-Residence program for Tennessee Homecoming, 1986

  • Sponsored Discover 1982, a special program for gifted children at King College
  • Sponsored Community Issues Seminar at Virginia High School which led to development of task forces on Drug & Alcohol Abuse and Teenage Pregnancy, 1982
  • Established a Coalition for Teenage Pregnancy Prevention
  • Latch Key Child Program offered in cooperation with the Crisis Center, 1985
