2007 Grants Awarded
The Junior League of Bristol Tennessee-Virginia, Inc. awarded grands to four local orgainizations in 2007. The Junior League sought to identify organizations in the Bristol area that share the league's goal of building a better community through identifying unmet needs, forging effective coalitions and working for change. The Junior League received eighteen applications for grants. The four organizations receiving project grants totaling $20,000 were: -The Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol/Washington County, VA, Inc. for a forensic medical evaluation room to be used for pediatric abuse victims. -Girls, Inc. for a local "Economic Literacy Program" to teach girls ages 5 to 18 basic skills such as balancing a checkbook to investing in the stock market. -Bristol Regional Speech & Hearing Center for direct parent training to facilitate language development for delayed children using a program known as the "Hanen Approach." -Bristol's Promise for research-based parent education workshops in the Bristol TN/VA area called "Supporting School Success", which helps parents learn to support their children's academic achievement, improve communication at home, and reduce misbehavior.
